The North Wall is an Arts Centre in Oxford that has been created for the benefit of emerging artists across a range of disciplines.
Based on the campus of St Edward’s School, this award-winning facility was completed in 2006, and offers a fully flexible 200-seat theatre, a public art gallery and studios for dance and drama. The programme of events at The North Wall places emphasis on new and innovative work.
Since opening to the public in 2007, we attracted a number of well established theatre companies including 1927, ATC, Out of Joint, Bush Theatre and Shared Experience as well as bringing the latest work from up and coming companies. Comedians who have appeared at The North Wall include Sarah Millican, Harry Hill and Julian Clary, to name only a few. In the past we have welcomed some fantastic musical acts, such as French-Irish chanteuse Camille O’Sullivan, Ralph McTell, The Unthanks and Spiers & Boden.
The North Wall runs a busy programme of professional theatre, dance, music and arts events, and is also home to the Drama Department of St Edward’s School during term time.
The North Wall Gallery serves a dual purpose, both as an art gallery with regularly changing exhibitions throughout the year, and as a foyer for the theatre. There are 3 main walls of varying dimensions, plus two smaller areas around a central stairwell – all dimensions can be found on the floorplan, downloadable below. All downstairs walls are made of white-painted MDF, suitable for a wide variety of hanging methods. Smaller-scale or more intimate work is also occasionally programmed into the upstairs foyer, with certain restrictions owing to décor.
