Gorgie City Farm is a free-entry city farm.  It serves as a unique outdoor resource offering hands on educational and learning opportunities for all our visitors and offers educational tours and workshops for organised groups. We also promote community development, environmental sustainability, and social inclusion by providing volunteering opportunities for all.

We have been tucked in between a busy railway line and one of Edinburgh’s main arterial roads for almost 40 years, a little piece of the countryside right in the heart of Edinburgh. Gorgie City Farm is run as a working farm, meaning that our  farm animals are bred and raised for food production. We bring the sounds, smells and sights of rural Scotland into the city.

There has never been any entry fee in the farm. A critical source of income is from donations of visitors and people supporting our social enterprises such as Pet Boarding, Holiday Clubs and Birthday Parties.

On the farm

Gorgie City Farm is a much loved green breathing space for the local community and visitors, free and available for all to enjoy. The site is predominantly accessible but does have small slopes and cobbled pathways.

The animals we have on the Farm varies due to stock management, land use and maintaining animal welfare. We generally have chickens, ducks, cattle, pigs, sheep and goats. We also have small animals such as bearded dragons, tortoises, guinea pigs and land snails.

We have an education garden, herb and sensory garden, several greenhouses, a poly-tunnel and a vegetable garden. There is  a wildlife garden providing space for all kinds of wild insects, beasts and birds. We grow a range of fruit and vegetables, some of which are available seasonally from our produce stall, and some are sold to shops and restaurants in the community.

Additional facilities include a small play park suitable for visitors under seven. We have accessible toilets and baby change facilities. There are also bike racks available to visitors. We also have rooms available for hire.
