Stonor Park has been the Stonor family’s residence for 850 years. Making it one of the oldest family homes still lived in today.
When you visit, you will see why. It’s beautiful. Our historic building and sweeping grounds are breathtaking. And our family collection of art and artefacts is extraordinary. It’s fascinating. You can view the work of St. Edmund Campion, created when he was given refuge here in 1581. And outside sits our oldest resident: a perfectly preserved prehistoric stone circle.
The House
As well as being architecturally fascinating each room contains a lifetime of experience and anecdote. Discover art and treasures collected from across the globe and view historic maps and documents that reveal generations of service to the country. A stroll through this house is a vivid walk through history.
Gardens & Park
The lush parkland of Stonor is set in a dramatic, sweeping valley deep within the heart of the Chiltern Hills. Visitors are invited to explore our three gardens – from the ponds and fountains of the 17th Century Italianate Pleasure Garden to the old Kitchen Garden designed and nurtured by Lady Camoys and the eclectically treed Arboretum. It’s a truly mesmerising setting.
Parkland
Our guests love to experience the natural wonder of the surrounding parkland, with its lush green slopes fringed by a host of centuries-old beech and ash trees. This verdant habitat is the home of our ancient herd of fallow deer who have supplied venison to countless Kings and Queens throughout history. Living alongside the deer are badgers, hares, rabbits, pheasant, soaring red kites, ravens and buzzards.
Wonder Woods
Where children will have hours of entertainment swinging, jumping, sliding, climbing and splashing.
Younger children will have fun transporting super-soft sand and pumping water or letting their imagination run wild in the playhouse. There are rocking deer, a wibbly wobble dish, seesaw and slide too.
Larger kids can throw their energy into climbing the Wonder Woodpile and twisty rope tangle. There’s also the 9m Pyramid Tower to climb and slide off, tree house, wavy slide, giant nest swing and spooky tunnel. And do you think you’ll be brave enough to try the 50-metre zip wire? Of course you will.
