With a lovely location in the picturesque Wharfedale valley, Bettys Ilkley Café Tea Rooms is as popular with shoppers visiting the town’s smart boutiques as it is with walkers planning or returning from a ramble on the moors. The Bettys story started in Harrogate 100 years ago.

Much has changed since 1919 but at least two things remain the same: our treats are just as delicious and our welcome is just as warm. We still think that the traditional ways are the best, that a beautiful setting is good for the soul, and that life can be improved with simple pleasures. Our purpose is to create treasured memories – we hope we can make one for you.

Tea and Coffee

How do we manage to source such incredible teas and coffees? The answer is our sister company, Taylors of Harrogate. Once a separate tea and coffee business, Bettys was offered the chance to buy it in 1962. And as it was Yorkshire-based, family-owned and devoted to quality, there was rather a lot of common ground. When the chance came for them to join together, it was a perfect match.

Taylors is built on long term relationships, often developed over decades and is proud to be a founding member of the Ethical Tea Partnership, which works on long term programmes for a fair and sustainable tea industry. Buyers regularly travel to visit the farms and co-operatives that supply our tea and coffee and have a genuine rapport with our suppliers – because when we work with people, we want those relationships to be real and sustainable.

Afternoon Tea

People flock to Bettys from all around the world to dine at the home of Afternoon Tea. It’s a timeless treat – endearingly unique, reassuringly traditional and irresistibly delicious.
